The Needle House Origins

When I first started to write The Needle House I had no inclination that it would turn into a series of books. After all, it is difficult to see the end of the first book without imagining more will follow.
In fact, Needle was never even intended to be a crime book at all. I had started out with the intention of writing a paranormal thriller but when I reached the halfway mark, it dawned on me that the story just wasn’t working. The reason for this was simple, though it was something that I either chose to ignore or simply didn’t see.
It had all the makings of a crime rather than paranormal thriller.
A crime had been committed and yet I tried to skirt around this
issue and stick to the paranormal aspect of what I wanted to write.
After much scratching of the head I decided to change the book
around, DS Lasser had only appeared about fifty pages in, so I
dragged him kicking and screaming into the limelight and suddenly
it all made sense.
And the title?
Er, don't know really, I was just looking for something catchy. Not
the best answer in the world but true nonetheless.
